- Canadian cities are waiting longer than ever for fire trucks. For instance, the city of Shawinigan, QC is waiting for 4 years for a new fire truck - https://www.iaff.org/news/fire-truck-delays-and-rising-costs-strain-canadas-fire-service/# - and the city of Cambridge, ON is waiting 2 years for a new fire truck - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/fire-department-fire-truck-delays-waterloo-region-1.6747412

- ¨REV Group¨, Oshkosh and Rosenbauer America LLC control between 70 and 80 percent of the US fire truck market according to this lawsuit https://www.hbsslaw.com/cases/firetruck-pricing-antitrust ¨REV Group¨ is owned by private equity firm ¨American Industrial Partners¨. This year REV Group merged with Terex https://investors.terex.com/news/news-details/2026/TEREX-AND-REV-GROUP-COMPLETE-MERGER-CREATING-A-PREMIER-SPECIALTY-EQUIPMENT-MANUFACTURER/default.aspx

- There are several independently owned truck manufacturers in Canada which don´t manufacture fire trucks. One of these manufacturers is a startup which launched last year. There are also several non-private-equity owned Canadian companies which manufacture fire trucks such as Fort Garry Trucks https://fgft.com/

- This business idea is to act as a consultant for one of these truck manufacturers and determine whether there is a business case for one of these existing Canadian truck manufacturers to expand into the fire truck manufacturing business.

- I don´t have a relationship with a truck manufacturer. I know of two Canadian truck manufacturers who would likely not be too hard to talk to.

- I am looking for people who know about government procurement or who can get meetings with people who do government procurement and for people who are interested in supply chains.

- This project might be just an interesting research project. It could be about helping an existing truck manufacturer expand into the fire truck manufacturing space. It could be about identifying a fire truck component where supply is particularly limited and starting manufacturing it ourselves.

- Apparently replacing just the chassis instead of the whole ambulance is a new trend https://crestlineambulances.com/ Not sure if this is also the case for fire trucks. I have heard from a person I met that a number of municipalities rent vs own their fire trucks.

- I think that fire truck manufacturing is much less roboticized than car manufacturing is.
